MATHEMATICS MODULE I (WORKSHOP)
Overview
The course is aimed at revising basic arithmetics contents to be taught, developing didactical competences in mathematics teaching, and developing competences in planning, implementing, critically revising teaching sequences and carrying out efficient assessment strategies.
Aims and Content
Learning Outcomes
In relation to the objectives set out for Mathematics 1, the aims of the Laboratory concern an in-depth study of the mathematical, logical and linguistic notions presented in such a course, with a view to their application in teaching; this will be realized by means of the analysis of the mathematical content and of the forms of communication and argumentation of kindergarten and primary school teaching situations.

- Laboratory-style lessons (individual work on worksheets + class discussions)
Syllabus/Content
- The concept of number
- Numbers and digits
- Number representations
- Number sense The aforementioned contents will be treated in reference to current National Guidelines and to the related teaching and learning problems, with a focus on linguistic and representation aspects.
Recommended Reading/Bibliography
Worksheets and reading materials will be provided during the course. At the end of the course, a revised version of the notes of the lessons will be provided.
