Program Overview


MOVIE LAB

Overview

The course aims to provide an adequate knowledge of cinematographic and audiovisual language in its development from the origins of cinema to contemporary times. In order to allow a critical approach of analysis that is able to take into account the most relevant historical and theoretical junctures.

Learning Outcomes

The laboratory aims to offer to students an opportunity to learn specific tools, linked with the main areas of the entertainment disciplines. In particular, the laboratory focusing on television and cinema languages.


Aims and Learning Outcomes

The workshop intends to offer students the opportunity to learn from the inside about the logics, styles and forms of communication in the main areas of the performing arts disciplines, focusing in particular on the evolution of audiovisual language.


Teaching Methods

Lectures with projections and related analyses.


Syllabus/Content

The course is structured through lectures that will also make use of film screenings, or film excerpts, that will be analysed and discussed.


  • The history of cinema will be examined from the pioneering era, to the formation and consolidation of the cinematographic language, to the establishment of a 'koinè' of Hollywood matrix, the so-called 'classic cinema', able to impose itself on the different national cinematographies.
  • The cinema of the historical avant-gardes and that of the neo-avant-gardes of 'modern cinema' will then be considered, which will be the subject of an in-depth theoretical study from the perspective of depth psychology.
  • Finally, we will come to the innovations and problems posed by the digital revolution.
