Objectives and Contents

Educational Objectives (Detail) and Learning Outcomes

The course aims to:

  • Provide students with basic notions about the formation of X-rays in CT
  • Give students a general understanding of image formation in CT
  • Introduce topics related to image reconstruction in CT
  • Provide students with basic notions about CT types
  • Introduce topics related to dose modulation in CT
  • Provide students with basic notions about dosimetry in CT
  • Provide students with basic notions about quality controls in CT

Expected learning outcomes:

  • Know how X-ray production occurs in CT
  • Understand how image formation occurs in CT
  • Understand how image reconstruction occurs in CT
  • Recognize CT generations
  • Critically evaluate how the choice of acquisition parameters affects the dose in CT
  • Explain the main quality controls in CT

Teaching Methods

  • Frontal lessons with the aid of slides

Program/Content

  • Physics of the X-ray tube, spectrum, filters

Lesson Schedule

The schedule for this course can be found on the EasyAcademy portal.

Exams

Exam Method

The exam is taken at the integrated course level. The learning assessment for this specific course is done through multiple-choice quizzes.

Assessment Method

Verify that the student knows the operation of the CT, from X-ray production to the final image, that they know the CT generations, that they understand how acquisition parameters affect the patient's dose, that they know the main quality controls in CT, and that they understand the operation of multislice CT. The student must answer 10 questions on the entire program, with at least one question requiring the calculation of the dose received by the patient.
