Educational Objectives

Formative Objectives

The aim is to learn the main notions of specific histology with in-depth studies in the field of some tissues of particular relevance, such as blood, lymphoid tissue, epithelial tissue of coating and associated glandular tissue to the gastroenteric and respiratory apparatus.

Detailed Formative Objectives and Learning Outcomes

The purpose of the course is to provide the student with specific in-depth knowledge in the field of some tissues of particular relevance, such as blood, lymphoid tissue, epithelial tissue of coating and glandular tissue associated with the gastroenteric and respiratory apparatus. The course has the following objectives:

• Observe and describe a histological structure in optical microscopy appropriately.
• Learn the basic principles of the main histological staining methods. The expected learning outcomes are:
• Be able to recognize and describe with suitable language what the observation has revealed; in the specific case, what has been found by microscopic observation.
• Knowledge of histological investigation methods.

Didactic Methods

Observation at the optical microscope and on connected screens with optical microscopes of histological preparations. It is possible that the method of conducting lessons may be modified due to emergency situations that prevent the conduct of lessons in presence. In this case, the lessons will be carried out through the Teams platform using suitable substitute didactic tools, such as images and/or virtual microscope.

• Epithelia of coating
• Secreting epithelia: exocrine and endocrine glands
• Figurative elements of the blood
• Lymphoid tissue:
  • Primary and secondary lymphoid organs

Exams

Examination Method

The exam consists of a recognition test of a histological preparation for each topic in-depth, among those viewed during the lessons. For cases with DSA certification, disability, or other special educational needs, the regulations and rules on disability and DSA of the University are applied.

Verification Method

1. The chosen examination method allows verifying the acquisition of knowledge included in the formative objectives.
2. At the end of the course, the student will take a practical test at the microscope. The acquisition of knowledge and the ability to apply them will be verified through the recognition and description with suitable language of histological preparations. It is possible that the method of conducting exams may be modified due to emergency situations that prevent the conduct of exams in presence. In this case, the recognition and description of preparations will be carried out on images proposed through the Teams platform.
