Objectives and Contents
Educational Objectives
The course aims to introduce students to the constructive elements and proportions of the main types of boats through graphic representation according to the main conventions of use. It also proposes the optimization of forms based on the type of use, possible technologies, product costs, and industrialization.
Detailed Educational Objectives and Learning Outcomes
The course makes students aware of the different types of boats, their peculiar shapes and proportions, principles, and functioning, through historical, technological, and industrial evolution as indispensable facts to correctly address their effective graphic representation in respect of the main conventions of use.
Didactic Methods
- For Attending Non-Working Students:
- To take the exam, it is necessary to attend at least 70% of the course lessons.
- Compilation of the online didactic quality questionnaire.
- Respect for the assignments of the exercises planned during the course and support for the written-graphic test in the classroom.
- For Non-Attending Working Students:
- Compilation of the online didactic quality questionnaire.
- Delivery of exercises on the day of the exam.

- Synthetic Program:
- The course takes place in the 2nd semester.
- Theoretical lessons are held on the following topics:
- Characteristic geometries of boats: cavallino, bolzone, specchi di poppa, etc.
- The sailboat, proportions between elements, sails, and deck equipment.
- Analysis of sailboat types (sloop, cutter, ketch, …).
- The motorboat, typical hulls, proportions.
- Analysis of motorboat types (runabout, fast commuter, center console, etc.).
- Motor propulsion systems (axis lines, transmissions, etc.).
