CHIRURGIA MAXILLOFACCIALE

Presentation

The Chirurgia maxillo-facciale is a medical and surgical discipline specialized in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases that affect the mouth, jaw, mandible, face, and neck; some of these pathologies are the subject of logopedic rehabilitation.


Objectives and Contents

Educational Objectives

To provide essential knowledge, relevant to logopedic rehabilitation, of maxillo-facial pathology.


Detailed Educational Objectives and Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course, the student will be able to:


  • Recognize and know the main pathologies of the lip, teeth, and tongue and the resulting dyslalias
  • Recognize and know the main pathologies of the hard and soft palate
  • Recognize and know the main rhino-sinusal and osteo-articular pathologies

Teaching Methods

The course is held in the first semester of the third year through frontal lessons with the aid of slide projections.


Program/Content

Recalls of anatomy of the articulation and resonance apparatus. Pathologies of the lip and labial dyslalias. Dental pathologies and dental dyslalias (malocclusions and maxillo-facial dysmorphisms). Lingual pathologies and lingual dyslalias. Pathologies of the hard palate. Pathologies of the soft palate. Rhino-sinusal pathologies (open and closed rhinolalia). Osteo-articular pathologies (temporo-mandibular joint disorders).

Students are provided with a copy of the slides projected during the lessons.

Examination Methods

The learning assessment takes place through an oral test within the verification of the Integrated Course (Scienze Audiologiche e Foniatriche II) of which the discipline "Chirurgia Maxillo-facciale" is part.


Assessment Methods

The student must demonstrate having reached an adequate level of knowledge of the main pathologies that affect the organs belonging to the vocal tract and the related surgical interventions.
