Educational Objectives (Detail) and Learning Outcomes

The course aims to develop in students the ability to recognize signs and symptoms, conduct direct patient examinations, and provide care. By the end of the course, students should be able to:


  • Understand the importance of different types of prevention and their operational methods
  • Know the principles of medical, physiopathological, and rehabilitative diagnosis
  • Understand how to perform functional assessments for voice, articulation, and swallowing disorders
  • Know the principles of rehabilitation projects and programs
  • Recognize the importance of signs and symptoms that distinguish pathological conditions
  • Understand diagnostic-therapeutic and care pathways
  • Be able to navigate multidisciplinary evaluation protocols

The course covers:


  • Dysphagia or swallowing disorders in adults
    • Anatomy and physiology of swallowing
    • Pathophysiology of swallowing
    • Classification and types of dysphagia
    • Penetration, aspiration, reflux, regurgitation
    • Diagnostic elements: non-instrumental and instrumental evaluation
    • Therapeutic elements: remedial pathway, management of correlated respiratory, nutritional, relational, pharmacological, postural, and communicative issues
    • The Heimlich maneuver
  • Dysarthria or motor speech disorders in adults
    • Classifications and types
    • Diagnostic elements: general motor examination, phono-articulatory motor examination
    • Diagnostic semiology of individual forms: spastic dysarthria, ataxic dysarthria, hyperkinetic dysarthria with rapid parasitic movements, hyperkinetic dysarthria with slow parasitic movements, mixed dysarthria
    • Therapeutic elements: treatment goals, early logopedic intervention, phases of planning and implementing intervention
  • Communicative disorders in individuals with intellectual disabilities in developmental age
    • Problems defining language delays
    • Classifications and types
    • Age performance ranges
    • Diagnostic elements: evaluation of general performance, communication evaluation
    • Therapeutic elements: promoting performance, promoting communication and verbalization

Exams

Examination Method

  • The exam takes place in oral form in a common session with the teachers of the integrated course.

Assessment Method

  • The student must demonstrate knowledge of the characteristics of individual phoniatric-logopedic pathologies, be able to frame the respective functional alterations and consequent disabilities, and understand what should be evaluated and with which tools, as well as how to proceed with the setting up of the rehabilitation project and program.
