Program Overview

Program Overview

The University of Genoa offers a program in Chemistry and Biochemical Propaedeutics, which is a 6 CFU course taught in the first semester of the first year.

Objectives and Contents

Formative Objectives

The program aims to provide students with basic knowledge in general and organic chemistry, enabling them to understand the relationships between different biomolecules and their role in human metabolism. The course also focuses on acquiring fundamental knowledge of macromolecules to contextualize chemical reactions that give rise to metabolism.

Detailed Formative Objectives and Learning Outcomes

By attending and participating in the didactic activities, students will acquire familiarity with the representation and reactivity of inorganic and organic compounds, with reference to medical aspects. Each topic is designed to satisfy specific knowledge needs required to understand how alterations in the composition of an aqueous solution or modification of an organic structure involved in cellular processes can interfere with biochemical mechanisms of a physiological type.

Prerequisites

The initial knowledge required is that provided in the programs of secondary schools of the second degree related to the discipline of chemistry, established by the National Guidelines for High Schools and the guidelines for Technical and Professional Institutes.

Didactic Methods

The course includes frontal lessons in presence, with the possibility of remote attendance. Attendance is mandatory and will be verified through the use of the Easy Academy platform.

Program/Content

The program details are outlined in the Syllabus attached to the DM 418/2025, including the number of credits to be dedicated to the specific treatment of the various topics.
