Objectives and Contents

Educational Objectives (Detail) and Learning Outcomes

The course aims to provide general information on the role of the nurse in the field of radiological diagnostics, a specialty in continuous evolution.

The course also aims to:

  • Provide students with basic notions in the field of imaging diagnostic techniques
  • Provide students with a general understanding of the roles of each component of the team (doctor, TSRM, nurse) with whom they will have to carry out their activity
  • Introduce the topics related to the various methods of imaging diagnostics - make students acquire the ability to understand their role in each of these methods
  • Develop in students the ability to manage radiological diagnostics from a nursing point of view, knowledge in the field of CT, MR, Ultrasound, interventional radiology, nuclear medicine, and the skills to be acquired for each individual method

At the end of the course, the student will be able to:

  • Know the importance of the nurse's activity in radiological diagnostics
  • Recognize and apply the importance of the doctor-TRSM-nurse team's work
  • Evaluate the various situations, even critical ones that may arise during a radiological investigation (e.g., allergic reaction after the use of contrast medium) and act accordingly
  • Distinguish situations of real danger and know how to face them in collaboration with the team responsible for diagnostics
  • Acquire concepts of responsibility and care of diagnostics in the custody of materials for the execution of radiological or nuclear medicine investigations: contrast media, life-saving drugs, drugs for emergency therapies in case of allergic reactions, material for biopsies, material for angiographic interventions

Teaching Methods

Interactive lessons with slide projections. Lessons to be held in the various radiological diagnostics for a "direct" knowledge of the equipment and devices used.

Program/Content

  • Ultrasound: general concepts, role of the nurse especially with regard to the execution of ultrasound-guided biopsies
  • Computed Tomography: general concepts, role of the nurse especially with regard to the execution of investigations with contrast medium and CT-guided biopsies
  • Exams with endoluminal contrast: general concepts, role of the nurse especially with regard to the execution of the investigation itself
  • Magnetic Resonance: general concepts, role of the nurse in the execution of investigations that provide for the use of contrast medium, contraindications to MR investigations
  • Angiography: general concepts, role of the nurse in the execution of angiographic investigations both for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes
  • Nuclear Medicine: general concepts, role of the nurse in the execution of diagnostic nuclear medicine investigations, hints of radiometabolic therapy

Exams

Exam Methods

Written: Written test consisting of 5 multiple-choice questions, in computer mode. The student must identify the correct answer among the 4 proposed answers.

LAP (Acceptable Performance Level) the student must answer correctly at least 2 questions out of 5.

To access the exam in the computer classroom, you must have completed the course on AulaWeb INFERMIERISTICA NELL'ASSISTENZA AL PAZIENTE CHIRURGICO - 67983 and have obtained the related attendance badge

Verification Methods

The multiple-choice test allows evaluating the cognitive knowledge of the topics covered in the classroom and deepened through group work and autonomy.

Before the final written exam with a multiple-choice quiz that includes all the subjects of the integrated course, a lesson (or part of it) is dedicated to verifying the general learning of what was proposed in the previous lessons: this verification is carried out in an oral, conversational way, formulating "random" questions on the program, often on more difficult topics, at the request of the students themselves who have the possibility to respond, clarify doubts, and better prepare for the exam of the integrated course.

As above, it is verified in a direct and immediate way, having the possibility to fill any gaps in the preparation for the final exam of the integrated course.

Other Information

During the lessons and especially on the occasion of the visit to the various diagnostics, interaction with the nursing staff is planned, who is available to show "live" what happens in a radiological diagnosis and answer the students' questions who will be their future "colleagues".
