PSICOLOGIA GENERALE

Course Description

The course aims to provide the fundamental elements related to psychology, understood as a scientific discipline. It will give ample space not only to the main psychological theories but also to the methods by which they were formulated.


Objectives and Contents

Educational Objectives

The course is divided into two parts: one on psychological theories and the other on methodological contents, in accordance with the Europsy normative.


  • Provide the historical and epistemological foundations.
  • Deepen the biological bases and review the main objects of study of the discipline with particular reference to the comparison between different approaches.
  • Provide the basic methodological and statistical elements useful for understanding and designing experimental and/or applied research in the psychological field.

Detailed Educational Objectives and Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course, the student will be able to:


  • Know the main psychological schools and place them along the timeline with particular attention to the historical, economic, and social context in which they were defined.
  • Possess the basic notions of the main areas of interest of modern scientific psychology.
  • Identify the applicative fields of psychological theories.
  • Know the methodological foundations of psychological research.
  • Possess basic notions of descriptive and inferential statistics.
  • Read the results of an investigation conducted with a quantitative and/or qualitative scientific approach.
  • Use the acquired knowledge to make their professional action as a psychological technician more effective.

Prerequisites

Basic linguistic knowledge, ability to operate connections.


Teaching Methods

Students are required to attend classes in person or alternatively audiocast lessons present on aulaweb.


Program/Content

A non-exhaustive list of course contents includes:


  • Historical framework. Birth and development of the main psychological approaches. Epistemological foundations of scientific psychology.
  • The measurement of sensory abilities, hearing, sight, and other senses. Neuropsychological foundations.
  • Theories of perception, perceptual constants, perceiving depth, images, and movement, amodal completion.
  • Altered states of consciousness: sleep, dreams, hypnosis, states induced by the use of narcotic substances.

Examination Methods

Written test (multiple-choice test on a computer) that focuses on textbooks and what was said in the lesson and not contemplated by the texts.


Exam program for those with partial recognition

Those who have obtained recognition equal to 8 CFU and must therefore fulfill a debt of 4 CFU must prepare only the chapters.


Those who have obtained recognition equal to 6 CFU, and must therefore fulfill a debt of 6 CFU, or equal to 4 CFU (with a debt of 8 CFU) must prepare chapters 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18 plus the monographic volume.


Program for students of 1st year of 8465 METODOLOGIE FILOSOFICHE (LM-78) (9 CFU):Chapters 1-13 and themonographic volume.****It is mandatory to enroll in the exam through the student portal.


Assessment Methods

The knowledge of the main theories treated in the manual, the understanding of the psychological mechanisms underlying the most important human behaviors, and the learning of the basic notions of research methodology and descriptive and inferential statistics will be the object of the final assessment.
