Program Overview

TEORIA DEI MATERIALI APPLICATI ALLA NAUTICA

Course Description

The course "Teoria dei Materiali Applicati alla Nautica" provides a critical overview of the main types of materials used in the design sector, with particular attention to their properties, production processes, and design and aesthetic implications.

Objectives and Contents

Educational Objectives (Detail) and Learning Outcomes

The main objective of the course is to provide students with a broad and structured vision of the main categories of materials used in the design sectors, highlighting their characteristics, application potential, and limitations. The course aims to accompany students in developing a critical capacity for material selection, promoting an understanding of the principles that govern their application in design contexts. By the end of the course, students will be able to consciously select materials suitable for the functional, aesthetic, and environmental requirements of a project and apply an operational methodology for their effective use.

Prerequisites

None

Teaching Methods

The course is articulated into monographic contributions dedicated to specific aspects of materials for design.

Program/Content

The course provides basic knowledge of materials and their use, with the objective of promoting conscious use in the context of industrial design. In particular, the program addresses the following topics:

  • Principles of material classification for design
  • Introduction to the mechanical, physico-chemical, and technological properties of materials
  • Plastic materials and main forming technologies
  • Non-ferrous metals: aluminum, copper, and related alloys
  • Glass and its working techniques
  • Composite materials: principles and classification
  • Recycled and recyclable materials (e.g., bioplastics)
  • Technologically advanced materials (e.g., smart materials, graphene)

Texts/Bibliography

The teaching material and bibliography will be made available on the Microsoft Teams platform and in the dedicated space on Aulaweb.
