Program Overview
The English Language course aims to consolidate linguistic competence in English at the B1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). This level is considered intermediate or "threshold" and is expected to have been acquired during secondary school education.
Objectives and Contents
Objectives
The course objectives are to develop reading and listening skills at the B1 level of the CEFR. Students are expected to comprehend key points of familiar topics, move with ease in situations that may arise while traveling, and produce simple texts related to familiar or personal interest topics.
Detailed Objectives and Learning Outcomes
At the B1 level, students should be able to:
- Comprehend the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters.
- Deal with most situations likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where the language is spoken.
- Produce simple connected text on topics that are familiar or of personal interest.
- Describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes, and ambitions, and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.
Teaching Methods
The course is delivered online in self-learning mode, accessible at a specified address. It consists of four modules, with the first three including exercises, activities, and grammatical sheets to review structures already known at the B1 level. The fourth module contains three sections, each with a simulation of an exam through which students can confront the types of exercises they will face in the actual exam on a computer.
