Presentation
This course serves as the intersection between circuit theory applied to electronic components and microcontrollers with their respective high-level programming tools. It covers the design and simulation of circuits, microcontroller programming (especially for signal management), and interfacing for the realization of programmable electronic systems used in engineering, such as IoT and mechatronic applications.
Educational Objectives and Contents
Educational Objectives
The course aims to provide fundamental knowledge of electronic devices, including diodes, bipolar and FET transistors. It also covers the analysis and simulation of electronic circuits in both static and dynamic regimes, linear and differential amplifiers, operational amplifiers, and AD/DA conversions, as well as the interfacing of electronic circuits with programmable systems.
Detailed Educational Objectives and Learning Outcomes
Through active participation in the proposed educational activities and individual in-depth study, students will be able to:
- Know the operating characteristics of electronic components: diodes, transistors, operational amplifiers
- Understand and apply circuit implementations with electronic components through design and simulation
- Know the architecture of microcontrollers and their application areas
- Evaluate and use software development tools for microcontrollers
- Understand the interfacing between microcontrollers and electronic circuits
- Program the main interfaces and functions of microcontrollers (GPIO, Timer, PWM, ADC) using development software
Prerequisites
For the part on components and circuits, basic knowledge of circuit theory is required. For the part on microcontrollers, basic knowledge of computer architecture and programming is necessary.
Teaching Methods
The course includes frontal lessons with computer aid, project development, and laboratory exercises.

Texts/Bibliography
All slides used during lessons, exercises (both simulations and software/firmware projects), and other educational materials are available on Aulaweb. Recorded lessons are normally available on the course's Teams channel. Given the extensive use of circuit simulation software and microcontroller programming, the use of online help and technical documentation available on Aulaweb and online is recommended. The following books can be used for further study:
- F. Giannini, Elettronica analogica: I fondamenti, Esculapio, 2013
- F. Zappa, Sistemi Elettronici, Esculapio, 2010
- C. Noviello, Mastering STM32, Leapub 2016
