Presentation

The Patologia Generale e Farmacologia course aims to provide students with the basics of general pathology (study of the causes of disease and possible pathological processes) and pharmacology (pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, drug action, use, and characteristics of contrast media).

Objectives and Contents

Educational Objectives

  • Understand the general aspects and objectives of the technical profession.
  • Acquire the attitude to consider the drug as a tool of medical practice that interacts with specific constituents of the organism, producing effects that can directly or indirectly modify the state of health.
  • Learn the fundamental concepts of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, drug classification, and interactions between them.
  • Know the pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics of the main contrast media used in diagnostics and radiopharmaceuticals; know the problems related to possible adverse effects induced by drugs and specifically by contrast media and radiopharmaceuticals.
  • Acquire knowledge of the origin and physiopathological mechanisms that underlie infectious, inflammatory, metabolic, degenerative, and neoplastic processes responsible for human pathology.

Detailed Educational Objectives and Learning Outcomes

  • Patologia generale: Provide students with the necessary knowledge to understand the mechanisms by which the causes of disease act on the human body and the main consequences of such actions.

Prerequisites

  • Knowledge of biology, histology, anatomy, physiology, biochemistry.

Teaching Methods

  • Patologia generale: Frontal lessons, with possible dialectical interactions with students.

Program/Content

  • Patologia generale: General etiology, with particular attention to radiation; main modes of cell adaptation and suffering, inflammatory and healing processes; general oncology.

Texts/Bibliography

  • Patologia generale: Students will be provided with handouts on Aulaweb that cover all the topics of the program; a supporting book (NOT mandatory) GM Pontieri, Elementi di Patologia generale, Piccin, ISBN: -0.

Lesson Schedule

  • The schedule for this teaching is available at: Portale EasyAcademy.

Exams

Exam Method

  • The exam for the Farmacologia part takes place exclusively in written form and within 60 minutes with 16 multiple-choice questions and 2 calculation exercises that require an open answer. The student must answer correctly to 10 multiple-choice questions and at least 1 calculation exercise, without penalty for unanswered or incorrect answers.
  • The sufficiency of the written test in farmacologia allows continuing the exam in oral form for patologia generale and scienze infermieristiche.

Verification Method

  • The verification of the correct understanding of the Farmacologia topics covered takes place during the written exam with a series of written questions that are changed at each exam session, are formulated in different versions between students who occupy contiguous positions in the classroom, and, as regards the quizzes, contain a range of 5 answers of which only one is correct.
  • The open questions require the student to perform simple mathematical calculations (proportions, fractions, etc.) to answer the question posed.
  • The student will be examined on the contents of one or two chapters covered in the lesson, both for Patologia generale and scienze infermiersistiche, with questions aimed at evaluating their learning and ability to make connections between the topics covered.
