Program Overview

MATEMATICA GENERALE

Presentation

The course will provide students with the main mathematical tools necessary to tackle subsequent courses in the degree program, promoting the learning of basic mathematical tools necessary for future studies.

Objectives and Contents

Educational Objectives

The course aims to provide students with basic mathematical tools used in other disciplines studied in the Department.

Detailed Educational Objectives and Learning Outcomes

The course aims to promote the learning of basic mathematical tools necessary for future studies. By the end of the course, students will be able to understand, apply, and treat mathematical tools.

Specific learning outcomes include:

  • Knowledge and understanding: acquiring adequate knowledge and effective understanding of the mathematical tools proposed in the course.
  • Ability to apply knowledge and understanding: applying acquired knowledge and understanding to mathematically solve problems in various fields, typically economic and financial.
  • Autonomy of judgment: using acquired knowledge with autonomous evaluation capacity and ability in different application contexts.
  • Communicative skills: acquiring the technical language typical of the discipline to communicate clearly and unambiguously with specialist and non-specialist interlocutors.
  • Learning ability: developing adequate learning abilities to continue using the assimilated mathematical tools, especially in future disciplines.

Prerequisites

The course does not require prerequisites, considering the individual's basic preparation heterogeneity due to different school backgrounds.

Teaching Methods

  • Teaching methods: The course typically takes place with frontal lessons and exercises.
  • Presence on Aulaweb: Yes

Program/Content

  • Recalls on sets, numerical sets, concept of function
  • Real functions of real variable: limits, continuity, derivatives and differentials, function study. Notes on real functions with multiple variables.
  • Indefinite integral, definite integral, improper integrals.
  • Linear algebra: real vectors, matrices, determinants, linear systems.

Texts/Bibliography

Recommended study texts will be communicated at the beginning of the lessons and published on Aulaweb.

Teachers and Commissions

  • Mauro Rosestolato
  • Matteo Brachetta
  • Ricevimento: Wednesday, 3:00-5:00 p.m. Students are requested to ask for appointments via mail a few days in advance.

Examination Commission

  • Matteo Brachetta (President)
  • Marina Ravera
  • Mauro Rosestolato
  • Maria Laura Torrente

Exams

Examination Methods

The student's preparation is verified through a final exam, consisting of one or more exercises and a group of theoretical questions (definitions, statements, applications, etc.).

Specific examination methods will be communicated and made known on Aulaweb by each teacher during the lessons.

The student in course or out of course can repeat the exam in all sessions (winter, summer, and September) with the following unique limitation: in sessions where three appeals are scheduled, the student (in course or out of course) can request the correction of the paper in two appeals out of three, at their choice.

Examination Modalities

The exam will evaluate the student's ability to understand, apply, and treat the learned mathematical tools. The exam will evaluate the actual achievement of the expected learning outcomes by assessing the understanding of the mathematical tools presented in the course.
