Program Overview

CHIRURGIA GENERALE

Course Description

The course aims to deepen the diagnostic and therapeutic aspects of the most common pathologies that may require potential elective or emergency surgical treatment during pregnancy.

Objectives and Contents

Educational Objectives (Detail) and Learning Outcomes

The purpose of the course is to describe the main abdominal emergencies during pregnancy, deepen their specific clinical characteristics, management, and treatment.

During pregnancy, due to the anatomical and physiological changes it entails, the clinical presentation of some surgical abdominal emergencies can be atypical and misleading. The resulting diagnostic uncertainty is often the cause of therapeutic delay, with an increase in both maternal and infant risks.

The specific training course will put graduates in the position to have the basic concepts that allow the provision of health care in the most common surgical urgent pathologies in pregnancy.

The graduate must be able to recognize, among the most frequent surgical pathologies in pregnancy, those that constitute an immediate risk of life for the mother and the fetus, knowing their management through the application of a critical decision-making process and evidence-based practice updated and validated.
