Program Overview

Introduction to the University Program

The University of Genoa offers a comprehensive program in Histology and Embryology, providing students with in-depth knowledge of cellular and tissue structure, as well as human development from gametogenesis to organogenesis.

Program Objectives

The program aims to equip students with a thorough understanding of:

  • Cellular and tissue structure
  • Human development from gametogenesis to organogenesis
  • The relationship between structure and function in different tissues and organs
  • The mechanisms underlying human development and tissue organization

Program Content

The program covers a wide range of topics, including:

  • Histology:
    • Epithelial tissues
    • Connective tissue
    • Cartilage and bone tissue
    • Blood and lymphoid tissues
    • Muscle and nervous tissues
  • Embryology:
    • Gametogenesis
    • Fecondation
    • Embryonic development
    • Organogenesis
    • Placenta and fetal membranes

Teaching Methods

The program includes 8 CFU of frontal lessons on Histology and Embryology, with a focus on the functional and clinical aspects of human development and tissue organization.

Texts and Bibliography

Recommended texts include:

  • Adamo et al. - Istologia di Monesi - Piccin Editore
  • Maraldi, Tacchetti - Istologia medica - Edi-Ermes
  • Ross M.H., Pawlina W.- Istologia. Testo e Atlante - Casa Editrice Ambrosiana
  • De Felici et al.- Embriologia umana - Piccin Editore
  • Barbieri, Carinci Embriologia Casa Editrice Ambrosiana

Instructors and Examination Committee

The program is taught by:

  • Roberta Castriconi
  • Emanuela Marcenaro
  • Simona Sivori The examination committee consists of:
  • Roberta Castriconi
  • Mariella Della Chiesa
  • Alessandra Dondero
  • Emanuela Marcenaro
  • Silvia Pesce
  • Antonio Puccetti
  • Simona Sivori (President and Course Coordinator)

Examination Methods

The examination consists of an oral test, which includes 2 questions on Histology and 1 question on Embryology, covering the program's contents. Students must demonstrate their ability to:

  • Recognize and describe the main ultrastructural features of cellular components in relation to different tissues
  • Understand the morpho-functional characteristics of various cellular components and tissues
  • Describe the stages of human development, from gametogenesis to organogenesis, and the underlying mechanisms and processes.

Additional Information

For students with certified disabilities or special educational needs, the university applies its regulations and norms regarding disability and DSA.
