Program Overview


Introduction to the Law International Summer School

The Reading School of Law has an international reputation for excellence in law and leading expertise in commercial and international law. The University of Reading is ranked among the world's top 200 universities.


The Law International Summer School

The Law Summer School is open to students from overseas universities who have completed the first year of their undergraduate studies and are currently in the second year or above. The International Summer School explores contemporary issues in areas such as arbitration, banking, global security, and climate change.


Program Structure

  • The program runs from 13 to 24 July 2026.
  • Students will engage with the fundamental themes of commercial law.
  • Students will learn about contemporary issues in international law.
  • Students will explore key aspects of the English legal system.
  • Students will experience life within a UK university environment by living and studying on the beautiful Whiteknights campus.

Teaching Methods

  • In-person lectures from University academic staff.
  • Group work, seminars, and workshops.
  • Field trips, cultural events, and trips to broaden understanding of British culture and society.

Eligibility

The International Summer School is open to all students from overseas universities who have completed at least half of their undergraduate studies. It is most suitable for undergraduate students (18+) who have not been educated in the UK.


Certification

After completing the summer school, all students will receive a University of Reading certificate.


Course Fee

The fee for the two-week summer school is Ł1,200. The fee includes all tuition and activities, including two full-day trips, and self-catered accommodation on the University campus.

What is Not Included in the Fee

  • Flights to the UK.
  • Insurance.
  • Food and drink (optional add-on catering packages are available).

Accommodation

The fee includes self-catered accommodation in University halls of residence on campus, which are within walking distance of teaching facilities and convenient to food outlets.


Travel to the UK

Students are recommended to plan to arrive at Heathrow Airport on Sunday 12 July and depart on Saturday 25 July, after the course has finished. Travelling to Reading from Heathrow Airport is easy and takes about 45 minutes by RailAir Link bus.


Arrival in the UK

Students must carry the following items in their hand luggage:


  • Valid passport or other travel document.
  • Visa (if applicable).
  • A printed copy of the confirmation of place (invitation letter) on the Summer School.
  • Address of accommodation in Reading (if known).
  • Relevant medical records and details of any existing medical conditions (if applicable).
  • Cash in Ł5, Ł10, and Ł20 notes only.
  • Phone charger and power adaptor.

British Money

  • The UK currency is the Pound (GBP).
  • The symbol for the Pound is Ł.
  • The Pound is comprised of 100 pence (p).
  • Coins come in the following denominations: 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, 20p, 50p, Ł1 (100p), and Ł2 (200p).
  • Banknotes come in the following denominations: Ł5, Ł10, Ł20, and Ł50.
  • Ł50 notes are not widely used and are sometimes not accepted as a means of payment.

Electronic Payments

Most public transport and taxis accept contactless card payments. Students should bring both cash and card payment options with them.


What Not to Pack

  • Kitchen items: these can be bought in the UK.
  • Bedding: this is included in the course fee. Please note that towels will not be provided.
  • Study materials: these can be purchased in the UK, either on campus or in Reading town centre.
  • Large amounts of cash: the University of Reading operates a cashless campus. Large amounts of cash (Ł10,000 or more) must be declared at customs on arrival in the UK.
  • Food items: it is illegal to import many food items (especially meat or dairy products) into the UK, but many foods you eat at home can easily be found in the UK.
