Program Overview


Introduction to the University of Reading's Department of Economics

The Department of Economics at the University of Reading offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs, including a unique double undergraduate degree in BSc Economics or BSc Business Economics in partnership with Nantong University.


Double Undergraduate Degree in BSc Economics or BSc Business Economics

This double undergraduate program allows students who have successfully completed two years at Nantong University in a Bachelor of International Economics and Trade to study BSc Economics or BSc Business Economics at the University of Reading. Upon completion, students will receive a degree from each institution.


BSc Economics Degree

The BSc Economics degree helps students develop the skills, knowledge, and understanding required to become an economist or use economics in other careers. Students will develop a strong grounding in the conceptual underpinnings of economics, as well as the mathematical approach to the subject and its methodology.


BSc Business Economics Degree

The BSc Business Economics degree allows students to use economic theory and methods to investigate markets, business environments, and industry. Students will develop a strong understanding of quantitative techniques, the conceptual underpinnings of microeconomic and macroeconomic theory, and how they can be applied to the analysis of business behavior.


Entry Requirements

To progress to the University of Reading's Part 2 (Year 2), students must:


  • Pass Nantong University's Part 1 and Part 2 with at least the equivalent of a 2.2 (70% average)
  • Achieve a minimum IELTS of 6.5 with no component less than 5.5, or equivalent

Programme Structure

The program involves studying a Bachelor of International Economics and Trade at Nantong University for the first two years, followed by two years at the University of Reading studying either BSc Economics or BSc Business Economics.
