The BA Philosophy and International Relations with Placement Experience is a full-time program that spans four years. This program delves into fundamental questions about the best way to live, what can be known about the world and ourselves, and the true nature of reality. It examines and challenges societal views on truth, reality, right, and wrong, making it ideal for individuals who enjoy debating and questioning the world around them.

Program Description

Philosophy is an in-depth examination of the reasoning behind views on a wide range of significant topics, including how one should live, what humans can know, and the nature of reality. It challenges assumptions about knowledge and living, concerned with how different worldviews clash or fit together, and how various perspectivesmoral, scientific, religious, metaphysical, personalmay be reconciled. Studying philosophy equips students with the ability to think logically, evaluate arguments critically, analyze and present complex ideas, and challenge their own and others' views.

Academic Expertise

The program's lecturers are experts in a variety of philosophical topics, with particular strengths in moral philosophy, philosophy of the mind, and language. Students also have the opportunity to study non-Western philosophies, especially Indian philosophy. The department teaches skills step-by-step, preparing students for modules in specialized areas of philosophy taught by leading experts, with strong input from their research.

The philosophy department is lively and friendly, with numerous activities both academically and socially. These include weekly visiting speakers, a thriving student-run Philosophy Society, and opportunities for work placements and study abroad. Upon graduation, students possess skills in clear thinking, logical analysis, and the critical assessment of arguments, which are highly valued in professional careers such as law, politics, management, and marketing.
