Overview of the PGCE Secondary Mathematics Program

The Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) Secondary Mathematics program at the University of Reading is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary to become a secondary mathematics teacher. This program leads to the award of Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), qualifying students to teach the 11-18 age group in secondary schools in England and Wales.

How You'll Learn

The PGCE course provides a varied learning experience, ranging from theoretical presentations to in-classroom placements. Students will engage in active discussions of teaching theory and practice, write assignments that connect theory to in-classroom teaching, attend workshops and individual tutorials with experienced teaching professionals, build up significant classroom experience with different age groups, work on tasks in groups, and visit schools or other education settings.
