BSc Bioveterinary Sciences

The BSc Bioveterinary Sciences degree provides students with the expertise to succeed in animal-related careers. Bioveterinary scientists play a vital role in addressing societal challenges by contributing to sustainability and food security, applying scientific approaches to animal health and welfare, and engaging in research at the interface of animal biology, veterinary science, and animal management.

Overview

At the University of Reading, students develop specialist knowledge, research expertise, and laboratory skills to tackle global challenges. The program is ranked 7th in the UK for Animal Science and Agriculture (Guardian University Guide 2026). Students gain a solid grounding in biosciences and an understanding of animal function from molecular to whole-animal level, covering topics such as:

Learning

Bioveterinary Science Facilities

Entry Requirements

• A Level: BBB, including grade B in A level Biology and another science subject
• International Baccalaureate: 30 points overall, including 5 in higher level Biology and another science subject
• BTEC Extended Diploma: DDM (modules taken must be comparable to A level subjects specified)
• Extended Project Qualification: In recognition of excellent preparation for University study
• English language requirements: IELTS 6.5, with no component below 5.5
• Alternative entry requirements for International and EU students: Country-specific entry requirements
• International Foundation Pathway: For international or EU students who do not meet direct entry requirements
