Program Overview

The BSc Agriculture program focuses on the applied science underpinning agricultural production. Students will learn to use biology and technology to meet crop and animal production targets and achieve environmental objectives.


Program Structure

The program is structured into three years of study, each with its own set of objectives and outcomes.


First Year

During the first year, students will gain a fundamental understanding of:


  • Crop and animal science and production
  • Soils and global sustainability issues They will also begin to develop their research skills, and the "Agriculture in Practice" module enables them to visit a range of farming enterprises.

Second Year

In the second year, students will:


  • Deepen their understanding of agronomy and animal production
  • Further develop their research and experimental skills
  • Undertake career planning activities
  • Go on a residential study tour From the second year, students can tailor their course to their interests through a mixture of optional modules across BSc Agriculture, with the option to specialize in:
    • Crops
    • Livestock
    • Horticulture

Final Year

In the final year, students will:


  • Undertake a major independent research project on a topic of their choice
  • Study agricultural technology alongside their choice of optional modules
