BSc Construction Management and Surveying with International Foundation

The BSc Construction Management and Surveying with International Foundation Year course is designed to prepare international students for a successful career in a management position within the construction sector. This four-year program enables students to undertake an undergraduate construction management and surveying degree after completing a foundation year.

Overview

This program is designed for international students who want to study construction and surveying at a British university but don't have the correct qualifications. The foundation year is designed to equip students with the subject-specific and general study skills needed to cope with the demands of undergraduate study.

Structure

The course consists of a foundation year (called Year 0) followed by three years of undergraduate study. The foundation year is designed to provide students with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in their undergraduate studies.

Compulsory Modules

• Academic Skills: Enhance academic study and communication skills while building confidence and mastering transferable abilities.
• Construction Science: Learn the fundamental concepts of construction science, including the physical properties and mechanics of construction materials.
• Information and Communication: Learn the importance of information representation and communication in the construction of building projects.
• Construction Technology: Develop knowledge and understanding of the various materials, technologies, and systems employed in the construction of low-rise buildings.
• Introduction to Economics and Law: Gain an understanding of the economic and financial context of the development and construction of built facilities.

Optional Modules

• Academic English 1 and 2: Develop the necessary basis in English for study at undergraduate level and competence in the use of English for academic purposes.
• Core Mathematics and Quantitative Methods: Learn techniques required to analyze and solve mathematical and statistical problems.
• Foundation Statistics and Data Science: Gain an introduction to statistics and data science, developing key theoretical, practical, and numerical skills.
• Foundation Economics - Microeconomics and Macroeconomics: Discover how individuals and companies allocate resources and learn models and theories used by economists to understand the performance of the economy.
• An Introduction to Business Management: Develop the ability to think critically and argue persuasively in business and management contexts.
• Introduction to Sociology and Topics in Sociology: Study the idea of sociology as a science and develop an understanding of norms and values, socialization, culture, and identity.

Fees

• New UK/Republic of Ireland students: £23,000 for 2026/27 Foundation year, then rising to the standard course fees for the duration of bachelor's level study.
• New international students: £23,000 for 2026/27 Foundation year, then rising to the standard course fees for the duration of bachelor's level study.
