Program Overview


BSc Psychology with International Foundation Year

The BSc Psychology with International Foundation Year is a four-year undergraduate degree designed for international students who wish to study psychology at a British university but do not have the correct qualifications. This program enables students to undertake an undergraduate psychology degree by completing a foundation year before progressing onto the three-year BSc Psychology degree.


Overview

This program is designed to equip students with the subject-specific and general study skills needed to cope with the demands of undergraduate study. The high-quality teaching is geared towards the needs of students from a wide range of educational backgrounds. Students will develop a broad knowledge of psychology and tailor their learning to their individual interests.


Structure

The program consists of a foundation year (called Year 0) followed by three years of undergraduate study. The foundation year is designed to equip students with the necessary skills to succeed in their undergraduate studies.


Compulsory Modules

  • Foundation in Academic Skills: Enhance academic study and communication skills while building confidence and mastering transferable abilities.
  • Psychology and Research: Explore key research methods applicable to psychology, developing skills in analysis, evaluation, and critical thinking.

Optional Modules

  • Topics in Sociology: Advance understanding of sociology by examining consensus and conflict, social structure, and social order and change.
  • Government and Politics: Study the nature of political institutions, concepts, and ideologies, developing the ability to interpret political information and execute a developed argument.

Entry Requirements

  • A Level: See entry requirements
  • AS and A Levels: 72 UCAS tariff points
  • International Baccalaureate: 24 points from the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme or International Baccalaureate Certificate
  • GCSE: Grades 94 (A*C) in five subjects, or equivalent qualifications
  • IELTS: A minimum overall score of 5.5, with no component below 5.5

Fees

  • New UK/Republic of Ireland students: Ł23,000 for 2026/27 Foundation year, then rising to the standard course fees
  • New international students: Ł23,000 for 2026/27 Foundation year, then rising to the standard course fees
  • Tuition fees are subject to annual increases in subsequent years of study

Careers

As a graduate of this course, you will be qualified for further training to become a professional psychologist. The BSc Psychology degree is accredited by the British Psychological Society and provides the Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership. This course will provide you with a range of transferable skills, including analytical qualitative abilities, writing experience, presentation skills, and the ability to think and analyze scientifically.
