Academic Practice Programme (APP)
The Academic Practice Programme (APP) is a key component of the University's commitment to ensuring that all staff are appropriately supported in their role as teachers and supporters of learning. The programme is delivered by the Academic Development and Enhancement team within the Centre for Quality Support and Development.
Programme Overview
The APP comprises two Level 7 taught modules:
- EDMAPi: Introduction to Academic Practice
- EDMAPd: Developing Academic Practice
- EDMAPr (Optional): Academic Research and Practice
Module Details
EDMAPi: Introduction to Academic Practice
This module provides an introduction to academic practice, focusing on the key components of teaching and learning in higher education.
EDMAPd: Developing Academic Practice
This module builds on the introduction provided in EDMAPi, further developing academic practice and exploring advanced topics in teaching and learning.
EDMAPr: Academic Research and Practice
This optional module explores the relationship between academic research and practice, providing participants with the opportunity to develop their research skills and apply them to their teaching practice.

The programme handbook provides specific and relevant information on the APP, including details on the modules, assessment, and programme requirements.
Eligibility and Exemptions
Eligibility for the APP is determined by the University, and exemptions may be available for certain participants. Details on eligibility, exemption, and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) can be found in the programme handbook.
School Endorsed Participants
Participants who are not contractually required to participate in the APP but are interested in doing so will need endorsement from the relevant Head of School or Department.
