Program Overview


Film and Media Studies (FMDA) Program

The Film and Media Studies (FMDA) program is a major that requires students to apply for admission. To be eligible, students must meet the following criteria:


  • Complete CMJN 2100 with a C or better.
  • Complete MDIA 2350 with a C or better.
  • Successfully complete 30 hours of degree-applicable course credits and be a student in good standing at the time of application.
  • Submit a well-written 300-word essay explaining why a chosen example of a popular film, TV show, or song is significant, and how the FMDA program fits with their academic and professional goals.
  • Students who transfer to Auburn University must complete at least one semester before applying to the FMDA major.

Curriculum

The FMDA program consists of a four-year curriculum, with the following course structure:


Freshman Year

  • Fall:
    • COMM 1000 Public Speaking (3 hours)
    • ENGL 1100 English Composition I (3 hours)
    • Core Social Science (3 hours)

  • Spring:

  • Total hours required for the program: 120 hours
  • Students must meet with their advisors to determine appropriate electives and courses for their supporting coursework.
  • Students must complete 33 total hours from the approved list of Major Electives, with at least 27 hours from Group 1.
