The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) program is designed to prepare individuals for careers in teaching, administration, extension service, and training. The program also prepares students for development positions in public and private education, business/industry, and government agencies.


Program Objectives

The program builds upon the knowledge of students' previous experiences and studies, enabling them to assume leadership roles, manage programs, and teach in a variety of settings.


Program Details

  • The Ph.D. program is not part of the Auburn University approved Educator Preparation Programs.
  • The state of Alabama does not have certification/license at this level, and therefore, this degree is not eligible for reciprocity in other states.
  • The program aims to educate leaders, communicators, teachers, and learners about agriculture for the complex food system.
  • Some students who enroll in the program are current agriculture educators seeking a doctorate, while others are the next generation of agricultural leaders who will pursue research and teaching jobs in academia and take positions worldwide.
