Program Overview

The Temporary Special Education Certificate Approach (T-SEC) is a professional educator certification program designed for individuals seeking temporary special education certification in grades 6-12. The program offers five courses, which are part of the requirements for obtaining Class B certification.


Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for the T-SEC program, individuals must meet the following criteria:


  • Have a bachelor's degree in any field
  • Have an overall GPA of 2.5
  • Be employed in a grades 6-12 setting
  • Complete required modules
  • Meet other requirements as specified by the Alabama State Department of Education

Course Requirements

The T-SEC program consists of the following courses, offered over three semesters:


Fall Semester

  • RSED 4010: Behavior Management in Special Education
  • RSED 4140: Assessment
  • RSED 5170: Secondary and Transition

Spring Semester

  • RSED 5160: Framework for Collaboration in Special Education

Summer Semester

  • RSED 5000: Advanced Survey of Exceptionality
