The Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree qualifies students for an Alabama Class A professional educator certification in instructional leadership, preparing them to serve as instructional administrators and leaders in a K-12 setting. The program focuses on collaboration, student learning, and achievement, utilizing a cohort format co-taught by experienced leaders and university faculty.


Program Structure

The program typically consists of 30 credit hours of coursework that can be completed in as little as 3 semesters. Master's student cohorts are admitted annually in the summer semester.


Admission Criteria

  • Rolling admissions are available.
  • For summer admissions, applications should be submitted by April 1st to receive priority consideration.
  • If the deadline is missed, applications may still be submitted, but guidance from the Program Coordinator is recommended.

Certification Requirements

  • A passing score on the appropriate Praxis II test is required.
  • Completion of an administrative certification application sent from Professional Education Services is necessary.
  • Applicants must have 3 years of full-time teaching experience or equivalent.
