Program Overview


Micro-Diploma in Leadership

The Micro-Diploma in Leadership (Leadership in Action) from the Asper School of Business equips students with the skills to lead with confidence. This micro-diploma can be added to a University of Manitoba degree or used as professional development to advance a career.


Program Details

  • The micro-diploma requires completing 10-11 credit hours of practical, leadership-related courses.
  • Students must complete 3 required courses and an additional 3-4 credit hours of elective courses.
  • A total of 30 hours of leadership work outside of coursework is also required.

Experiential Learning

Students must complete 30 hours of leadership work while enrolled in the micro-diploma. This can be done through a volunteer role, in a student or community association, athletic or recreational organization, or social impact venture, and must involve a leadership component beyond routine tasks.


Admission Requirements

Applicants must meet one of two entrance routes: Direct Entry or Advanced Entry.


Direct Entry

  • Applicants with fewer than 24 credit hours of post-secondary coursework completed.
  • Must have graduated from high school with at least 5 full credits at the Grade 12 level in courses designated S, G, U, or C.
  • Must have achieved a minimum average of 70% over the following, with no less than 60% in each of:
    • English 40S
    • Mathematics 40S
    • Two academic 40S courses

Advanced Entry

  • Applicants with 24 or more credit hours of post-secondary coursework completed.
  • Must have completed a minimum of 24 credit hours of coursework at a recognized college or university with a minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 2.0 (C) or better.

Expected Duration

The expected duration of the Micro-Diploma in Leadership is 1-2 years, with a maximum time to completion of two years (six academic terms), subject to course availability and approval from the Department of Business Administration.


Program Options

The Micro-Diploma in Leadership can be taken as a standalone program or embedded in an undergraduate degree.


Credential

Upon completion, students are awarded a Micro-Certificate in Leadership.
