Tree Identification Course

Course Information

The Tree Identification course is a hybrid short course that offers in-depth information and instruction on Manitoba's common tree species, covering naming, classification, and identification of both deciduous and coniferous trees.


Intended Audience

The intended audience for this course includes:


  • International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Certified Arborists
  • Non-certified Arborists (tree care workers)
  • Landscaping & Horticultural Professionals
  • Master Gardeners

Course Format

The course format includes:


  • Virtual evening sessions
  • In-person field and classroom sessions
  • Online test via UM Learn platform

Course Schedule

The course schedule is as follows:


  • Wednesday, April 22, 2026: Virtual evening session, 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm
  • Wednesday, April 29, 2026: Virtual evening session, 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm
  • Saturday, May 2, 2026: In-person field and classroom session, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm
  • Wednesday, May 6, 2026: Test (online via UM Learn platform), 6:30 pm to 7:00 pm

Fee

The course fee is $400.00, which includes GST.


Instructor

The instructor for this course is Carla Antonation, a practicing Arborist in Winnipeg, MB. Carla graduated from the Greenspace Management program at Red River College and has achieved her Arborist Certification and Tree Risk Assessment Qualification from the International Society of Arboriculture.
