Program Overview
Ukrainian, B.A. General
The Bachelor of Arts General Degree with a Major in Ukrainian requires the completion of 90 credit hours of coursework.
Degree Requirements
To graduate, students must complete the following requirements:
- 30 credit hours of Ukrainian courses
- 18 credit hours of courses in a Minor area of study
- 30 credit hours of courses outside the Major and Minor areas of study
- 12 credit hours of open electives
Ukrainian Courses
The 30 credit hours of Ukrainian courses must include:
- UKRN 1312: Introductory Ukrainian 1
- UKRN 1314: Introductory Ukrainian 2
- UKRN 2722: Intermediate Ukrainian 1
- UKRN 2724: Intermediate Ukrainian 2
- UKRN 3952: Advanced Ukrainian Conversational Practice
- UKRN 3962: Advanced Ukrainian Through Short Stories
Minor Area of Study
Students must complete 18 credit hours of courses in a Minor area of study, which must be different from the Major area of study.
Courses Outside the Major and Minor
Students must complete 30 credit hours of courses outside the Major and Minor areas of study.
Open Electives
Students must complete 12 credit hours of open electives.
Faculty Requirements
In addition to the degree requirements, students must also satisfy the Faculty of Arts requirements, which include:
- Completing a minimum of 90 credit hours of coursework
- Achieving a minimum "C" average on all courses used to satisfy the degree requirements
- Completing at least six credit hours from subject fields designated Humanities
- Completing at least six credit hours from subject fields designated Social Science
- Completing at least six credit hours from the list of courses that satisfy the Science requirement
- Completing at least three credit hours from the list of courses that satisfy the Indigenous Content requirement

Admission Requirements
To be admitted to the Bachelor of Arts General Degree with a Major in Ukrainian, students must meet the admission requirements of the Faculty of Arts, which include:
- Completing a minimum of 24 credit hours of university-level coursework
- Achieving a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.00
- Completing the required courses for the Major, including UKRN 1312 and UKRN 1314
Additional Requirements
Students must also satisfy the additional requirements of the Faculty of Arts, which include:
- Completing a minimum of 90 credit hours of coursework
- Achieving a minimum "C" average on all courses used to satisfy the degree requirements
- Completing at least six credit hours from subject fields designated Humanities
- Completing at least six credit hours from subject fields designated Social Science
- Completing at least six credit hours from the list of courses that satisfy the Science requirement
- Completing at least three credit hours from the list of courses that satisfy the Indigenous Content requirement
Residency Requirement
Students must complete a minimum of 48 credit hours of coursework at the University of Manitoba to satisfy the residency requirement.
Graduation
To graduate, students must satisfy all the degree requirements and have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.00.
