Program Overview


Program Overview

The Dental Hygiene program leads to a Dip.D.Hyg. degree and is designed to provide students with the necessary knowledge and skills to become competent dental hygienists.


Degree Requirements

The program is governed by the University of Manitoba's General Academic Regulations and Degree Requirements. Students admitted prior to 2020 should refer to the version of the University of Manitoba Undergraduate Calendar in effect on the date of their admission for clarification of program/graduation requirements.


Program and Graduation Requirements

The program consists of three years of study, with the following requirements:


  • Year 1:
    • 3 credit ENGL course at the 1000 level or higher
    • 3 PSYC 1200 Introduction to Psychology
    • 6 BIOL 1410 Anatomy of the Human Body
    • 3 BIOL 1412 Physiology of the Human Body
    • 3 STAT 1000 Basic Statistical Analysis
    • 3 CHEM 1100 Introductory Chemistry 1: Atomic and Molecular Structure and Energetics
    • 3 CHEM 1110 Introductory Chemistry 2: Interaction, Reactivity, and Chemical Properties
    • 3 CHEM 1120 Introduction to Chemistry Techniques
    • 3-6 credit hours of Electives (Sociology is strongly recommended)
