Introduction to the Juris Doctor and Master of Business Administration (JD/MBA) Program

The JD/MBA is a concurrent degree program designed to equip students with two fully qualified degrees after just four years. The program maximizes the strengths, marketability, flexibility, and future earning power of these two highly respected and competitive degrees.


Program Details

The Faculty of Law and Asper School of Business offer a four-year concurrent JD/MBA.


  • Expected duration: Four years
  • To graduate with a JD degree and an MBA degree, students will earn 131 credit hours.
  • In order to be accepted to the program, students must meet the entrance requirements of both degrees.
  • Students will apply to Law. During their first year of Law core courses, they will apply to the MBA. Upon acceptance to the concurrent JD/MBA program, the second year will be all MBA core courses, third and fourth year will be Law and MBA courses.

Yearly Breakdown

  • Year 1: Law core courses (53 credit hours)
  • Year 2: MBA core courses (30 credit hours), with 9 credit hours counting toward both degrees
  • Year 3 and 4: Law electives (30 credit hours) and MBA electives (18 credit hours)

Clinical Learning and Networking Opportunities

  • The program offers hands-on, experiential learning opportunities at both the Faculty of Law and the Asper School of Business.
  • Students can engage in legal business practice and research through the L. Kerry Vickar Business Law Clinic and the Desautels Centre for Private Enterprise and the Law.
  • The Stu Clark Centre for Entrepreneurship at Asper offers mentorship, education, networking opportunities, and access to funding.

Admission Requirements

Applicants interested in pursuing the concurrent JD/MBA must meet the minimum entry requirements for each program. Meeting those requirements does not guarantee acceptance into the program.


  • JD admission requirements:
    • A minimum of 60 credit hours of university degree level study
    • An LSAT score (Law School Admission Test)
    • There are three categories for entrance to the Faculty of Law: Index Score category, Canadian Indigenous category, and Individual Consideration category
  • MBA admission requirements:
    • A minimum of a three-year bachelor's degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.5 scale) in the last 60 credit hours or 2 years of study
    • Two years of full-time work experience is typically required
    • Minimum GMAT or GMAT Focus Edition (or equivalent GRE) score of 550
    • English language proficiency test scores, if applicable
