Program Overview
The Master of Dentistry in Prosthodontics program provides advanced education and training in prosthodontics to prepare graduates to pursue careers in clinical practice, academics, and research.
Program Details
The Department of Restorative Dentistry offers graduate instruction and research leading to a Master of Dentistry degree in Prosthodontics.
- Expected duration: 3 years
- Coursework requirements: 99 credit hours of coursework, along with a thesis and additional graduate resident responsibilities
- Graduate resident responsibilities:
- Preparation of a master's thesis
- Oral defense of your research project
- Submission of an article for publication based on your research
- Limited teaching in the undergraduate prosthodontic program
- Participation in outreach to underserved communities
Accreditation and Eligibility
The program is fully accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of Canada (CDAC) and recognized by the American Dental Association. Upon completion, graduates will be eligible to take the examinations for:
- Royal College of Dentists of Canada (RCDC)
- National Dental Specialty Exams (NDSE)
- American Board of Prosthodontics (ABP)
Tuition and Fees
Graduates will pay tuition and yearly program (and clinic) fees for every year they are registered in the program.

- RSTD 7022: Advanced Prosthodontic Seminars 3 (1 credit hour)
- RSTD 7018: Current Literature Review (1 credit hour)
Admission Requirements
The following are minimum requirements to be considered for entry into the MDent in Prosthodontics program. Meeting these requirements does not guarantee acceptance into the program.
- Degree requirement: Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) from a minimum four-year undergraduate dental school
- Licensure qualification: Dental qualification that makes the applicant eligible for licensure in a province of Canada
- Provincial compliance: Compliance with provincial requirements for licensing dental interns and residents
Additional Requirements
In addition to the above criteria, all applicants must meet the minimum admission and English language proficiency requirements set by the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies.
Application Process
Applications for the Master of Dentistry (MDent) in Prosthodontics are accepted once a year, with a deadline for August entry.

Application Deadline
Applications are reviewed on a committee basis. The annual application deadline is August 1 for the Fall term.
