Program Overview

Human Anatomy and Cell Science (MSc)

The University of Manitoba's Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies and the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences offer a Master of Science in Human Anatomy and Cell Science degree. This program advances research and education in the anatomical and biomedical sciences.

Program Overview

Anatomy is one of the oldest scientific disciplines associated with medicine. Modern day anatomical studies represent a foundational element in the practice of medicine, dentistry, medical rehabilitation, pharmacy, nursing, and the health sciences. In this MSc program, students can study anatomy at both the microscopic and macroscopic level, exploring how cell-to-cell communication and molecular functions influence tissue development, function, and regeneration.

Program Details

  • The expected duration of the program is 2 to 3 years.
  • The program is available on a full-time basis.
  • The degree offered is a Master of Science.
  • The program supports research related to four main thematic areas: Cancer, Neuroscience, Cardiovascular, and Musculoskeletal.

Admission Requirements

To be considered for admission to the Human Anatomy and Cell Science MSc program, applicants must have:

  • A minimum of a four-year bachelor of science degree with a minimum GPA of 3.5.
  • Graduates of medicine or dentistry holding MD, DMD, DDS, or equivalent degrees may also be considered.
  • Applicants must meet the minimum admission and English language proficiency requirements of the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies.
  • Before applying, applicants must contact and secure an advisor and receive a confirmation letter of financial support.

Program Structure

In addition to the minimum course requirements of the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies, students must complete:

  • Biomedical Training Skills (IMED 7410)
  • Six credit hours of approved courses at the 7000 level
  • A master's thesis
