Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:


  • Determine the best way to create value for shareholders of corporations and for stakeholders of non-profit organizations
  • Identify the core areas of corporate finance, including how they interact with the company's other functional areas to achieve organizational goals
  • Describe the role of intermediaries in the Canadian financial markets for raising capital to fund business investments
  • Prepare capital asset depreciation for tax purposes, and discuss the tax implication of additions and disposals
  • Apply techniques for financial statement analysis to evaluate the company's financial condition, capital structure, and operational performance
  • Analyze and contribute to management of working capital, including accounts receivable and inventories
  • Prepare calculations using multiple valuation methods and evaluate capital budgeting projects
  • Determine the valuation of marketable bonds
  • Determine the cost of debt and weighted average cost of capital calculations to determine the minimum required rate of return for investments
  • Determine the net advantage of leasing as an alternative method of asset acquisition financing
