Bachelor of Music

The Bachelor of Music is one of the core programmes started in 1997. After decades of educating and producing quality graduates in music, our programme has been striving to improve teaching and learning on par with leading universities worldwide. The curriculum is designed to develop students' musical craft and creativity in performance and theoretical studies in related domains. The Bachelor of Music focuses on four areas of study - Performance, Composition, Ethnomusicology and Education and students can expect to be taught by leading ethnomusicologists, musicologists, music composers, music educators, and professional performers of various backgrounds.

Course Structure

Students must complete a total of 127 credits in order to be awarded the Bachelor of Music. The programme is to be completed in three (3) academic years which consists of 6 Normal Semesters. Students must take and pass all courses / subjects prescribed as:

QUALIFICATION | REQUIREMENTS

--- | --- STPM (Current Year) | Passed the STPM with at least CGPA of 2.0 and Grade C in any three (3) subjects including General Studies; AND Candidate must have one (1) of the following qualification:

• Yamaha Certificate Minimum Grade 7;
• The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) Certificate Minimum Grade 5;
• Trinity College London (TCL) Certificate Minimum Grade 5;
• London College of Music (LCM) Certificate Minimum Grade 5;
• Australian GUILD Music & Speech Exam Board Certificate Minimum Grade 5;
• Possess other related certificate(s) in Music; OR Obtained at least Grade B for Music subject at SPM level; OR Have working experience in Music field for at least three (3) years by submitting related evidence; AND Obtained at least Band 2.0 in the Malaysian University English Test (MUET) for the examination starting session 1 of 2021 or Band 2 for the examination until 2020 according to the validity period on the date of application; AND Passed audition and interview. MATRICULATION / FOUNDATION | Passed the Matriculation / Foundation with at least CGPA of 2.0; AND Candidate must have one (1) of the following qualification:
• Yamaha Certificate Minimum Grade 7;
• The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) Certificate Minimum Grade 5;
• Trinity College London (TCL) Certificate Minimum Grade 5;
• London College of Music (LCM) Certificate Minimum Grade 5;
• Australian GUILD Music & Speech Exam Board Certificate Minimum Grade 5;
• Possess other related certificate(s) in Music; OR Obtained at least Grade B for Music subject at SPM level; AND Obtained at least Band 2.0 in the Malaysian University English Test (MUET) for the examination starting session 1 of 2021 or Band 2 for the examination until 2020 according to the validity period on the date of application; AND Passed audition and interview. DIPLOMA / EQUIVALENT | Possess a Diploma in Music from Malaysia Public University or other institution recognized by the Government of Malaysia and the University Senate with at least CGPA of 2.00; AND Obtained at least Band 2.0 in the Malaysian University English Test (MUET) for the examination starting session 1 of 2021 or Band 2 for the examination until 2020 according to the validity period on the date of application; AND Passed audition and interview. OR Possess a Diploma in Music from Malaysia Public University or other institution recognized by the Government of Malaysia and the University Senate with at least CGPA of 2.00; AND Candidate must have one (1) of the following qualification:
• Yamaha Certificate Minimum Grade 7;

• REQUIREMENT 1 Possess a GCE A-Level qualification with at least Grade B in any two (2) subjects; AND Candidate must have one (1) of the following qualification:
  • Yamaha Certificate Minimum Grade 7;
  • The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) Certificate Minimum Grade 5;
  • Trinity College London (TCL) Certificate Minimum Grade 5;
  • London College of Music (LCM) Certificate Minimum Grade 5;
  • Australian GUILD Music & Speech Exam Board Certificate Minimum Grade 5;
  • Possess other related certificate(s) in Music; OR Obtained at least Grade B for Music subject at SPM level; AND Obtained at least Band 2.0 in the Malaysian University English Test (MUET) for the examination starting session 1 of 2021 or Band 2 for the examination until 2020 according to the validity period on the date of application; AND Passed audition and interview.
• REQUIREMENT 2 Passed the Foundation Studies in Creative Arts (ASWARA) with at least CGPA of 2.00; AND Obtained at least Band 2.0 in the Malaysian University English Test (MUET) for the examination starting session 1 of 2021 or Band 2 for the examination until 2020 according to the validity period on the date of application; AND Passed audition and interview.
