Program Overview
Introduction to the Fellowship in Advanced Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology (FAOMP)
The Fellowship in Advanced Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology (FAOMP) is a recognized sub-specialty of Pathology in many countries. Currently, there is only one postgraduate degree program conducted for the entire country by Universiti Malaya. However, upon qualification, the usual practice is to send participants to different stations around the country.
Program Overview
Pathology is a fast-developing and evolving specialty, requiring regular and frequent updating programs for those involved in diagnostic Pathology to stay current with developments in the subject. The initiation of a fellowship of this nature will improve the standards of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology in Malaysia and enhance the management of diseases of the oral and maxillofacial region. The fellowship will also serve as an added qualification for participants.
Program Format and Duration
The program will be offered in a hybrid format (on-site/online) with a duration of:
- Six months for international candidates
- One year for local candidates
Eligibility Criteria
All prospective candidates must be practicing Oral and Maxillofacial Pathologists. The program will also be offered to Oral and Maxillofacial Pathologists in the region, as there are no such programs in regional countries.
Program Objectives
The aims of the program are to:
- Provide up-to-date knowledge on new developments in diagnostic Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology
- Encourage practicing Oral and Maxillofacial Pathologists to engage in continuing professional development
Expected Outcomes
At the end of the program, candidates are expected to acquire knowledge on major recent developments in the field of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology.
