Compare the prices of household and other useful items from your current country with your studying abroad one to see where you can save a few bucks in purchases. 

On the topic of saving, do NOT let your student discounts go to waste. Explore the discounts you can get with your new earned student email and purchase more from there. Feel free to ask customer service if your student discount applies.

Always carry a mini first aid kit in your bag. Fill this bag with painkillers, ointments, plasters and any other medications or the sort you may need 

In your backpack carry an empty notebook and a pen and a pencil each for quick notes or incase you need a paper even if you use electronics 

Don’t leave the house without your charger(s) and a power bank 

Leave a sticky note behind or beside your door to remind you of things like chargers

For safety, invest in a tool that will keep your door more securely locked. You can find such tools on amazon and the likes. Keep a reminder beside your bed to lock your doors before sleeping. 

Also either memorise or stick on the back of your phone the emergency numbers in your country of residence. This includes the police, ambulance etc.
