Program Overview


Bachelor Programme of Arts International and Strategic Studies

The Bachelor Programme of Arts International and Strategic Studies is designed to introduce students to major theoretical ideas and various approaches to politics and international relations. The programme examines how states and international institutions function in practice, and students attend a series of introductory compulsory courses where they use qualitative and quantitative methods to investigate and observe international historical and political events or questions.


Programme Objectives

The programme's objectives are to equip students with knowledge of international relations, foreign policy, security studies, defence analysis, and strategic studies. This is achieved by examining international interactions between state and non-state actors, as well as emerging trends and long-term effects of both global and regional issues.

Language Requirement

For international applicants, the English language requirements are as follows:


  • The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) with a total score of 550 and above for the Paper-based Test (PBT), 213 and above for the Computer-based Test (CBT), or 79-80 and above for the Internet-based Test (IBT)
  • The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with a total score of Band 6 and no lower than the said band for every section of the test
  • The General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE), University of Cambridge, with a credit pass in either Ordinary (GCSE O) Level or Advance (GCSE A) Level

The main medium of instruction for all courses in the department is English, and sometimes in dual languages (English and Malay). However, students are encouraged to use mainly English.
