Introduction to the English Engineering Education Program (e3)

The English Engineering Education Program (e3) at Hokkaido University's School of Engineering is a comprehensive program that covers almost all fields in engineering. With around 2,200 undergraduate students and 1,000 graduate students, including a large proportion from overseas, the program offers a unique opportunity to study engineering in a multicultural environment where English is the main spoken language.

Admission

Admission to the program is available in April or October.

Application Steps

The application process involves the following steps:

1. Matching Check

• Uploading application documents on the e3 online system
• Document screening
• Online interview with a potential supervisor (if needed)

2. Notification of Matching Check Results
3. Submission of Hard Copy Application and Examination Fee Payment

• Only applicants who passed the Matching Check are required to pay the examination fee and post the original documents.

4. Admission Screening

• Document screening
• Online interview with professors of the prospective division/laboratory

5. Notification of Examination Results

Entry Requirements

To obtain entry into the Master's/Doctoral Program, applicants must:

• Meet the requirements of nationality and educational qualifications
• Have high academic performance (e.g., average of 80% or higher / 3.0 or higher on a 4-point GPA scale)
• Submit official English test scores as designated by e3 or a certificate of Medium of Instruction as proof of English proficiency.

Graduation Requirements

Master's

• The typical time required to complete this degree is 2 years.
• To qualify for the degree of master, students must satisfactorily earn a minimum of 30 credits from coursework and pass a thesis defense.

Doctorate

• The typical time required to complete this degree is 3 years.
• To qualify for the degree of doctor, students must have satisfactorily earned a minimum of 10 credits from the coursework and passed the dissertation defense.
