Program Overview
Introduction to the Master of Arts in European History
The Master of Arts in European History (MEH) is a two-year international program with a focus on European history in a comparative and global perspective. It is offered by a consortium of prestigious universities based in European capitals.
Program Structure and Mobility
The program is structured as follows:
- Year 1, Semester 1: Studying at the University of Rome Tor Vergata
- Year 1, Semester 2: Studying at the University of Rome Tor Vergata or at one of the partner universities (at least 30 ECTS)
- Year 2, Semester 1: Studying at one of the partner universities (at least 30 ECTS)
- Year 2, Semester 2: Studying and defending the final dissertation at the University of Rome Tor Vergata

Language of Instruction
English is the language of instruction and will be used at all partner universities. Students can also attend classes in Italian.
Exams and Fields of Study
Exams offered in the universities are grouped according to the following fields:
- Social and economic history
- Cultural history and history of religions
- History of science and Gender studies
- History of dictatorships and violence
- Colonialism and post-colonialism
- Imperial history and nation-building
- International and transcultural relationships and migration
Eligibility and Application
To be eligible for the program, applicants must have:
- An undergraduate degree from a European accredited university, or its international equivalent, in a relevant subject area of Humanities and Social Sciences.
- Near-fluent English language skills (level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, CEFR) and a good knowledge of a second language.
Admission Process
The admission process involves the following steps:
- Filling in the online application form
- Uploading required documents, including:
- BA diploma (translated in English)
- Curriculum Vitae (in English)
- Motivation Letter (in English)
- English language certificate
- Level B2 Italian language certificate (for non-EU students residing abroad)
Fees and Grants
Fees range from 500 to 2500 per year, according to students' family income. Students can also benefit from specific Erasmus grants for the term spent abroad.
Accommodation
The University of Rome Tor Vergata has its own campus, CX Rome Student Place, which offers high-quality services and over 1,500 bed spaces. Private accommodation can also be found off-campus.
Summer School
The MEH program organizes a summer school every year, where students and faculty members from all universities can meet to debate research and get to know each other better.
Double Degree
After attending lessons and passing exams in at least two different partner universities for a total of 120 ECTS, students will receive a double degree issued by the University of Rome Tor Vergata and the host full partner university.
