The Ph.D. program in Business Engineering is offered by the Department of Business Engineering "Mario Lucertini".

Program Overview

The program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive education in business engineering, with a focus on research and innovation.

First Year

The first year of the program includes the following courses:

• Data Management (6 credits)
• Design of research: European projects (4 credits)
• Big data (3 credits)
• Case study and action research (3 credits)
• From a literature review to a conceptual framework: how to develop research model and hypotheses (2 credits)
• Survey and experimental research methodologies (5 credits)
• Innovation management and economics (4 credits)
• Modelling and data analysis of complex systems (4 credits)
• Research methodology for business engineering research (1 credit)
• Qualitative interviews, modelling and simulation developing process theory with narratives (and secondary data) (3 credits)
• Seminar on technology transfer (2 credits)
• Leadership, communication and Charisma (1 credit)
• Doctoral Symposium (1 credit)
• Summer School AiIG (10 credits)

Second Year

The second year of the program includes the following course:

Third Year

The third year of the program includes the following course:

• Corso di tipo qualitativo nell'ambito dell'ingegneria gestionale (20 credits)

Program Requirements

The program requires a minimum of 20 hours of coursework per year. Participation in the courses offered by the Ph.D. program is mandatory.

Admission Requirements

Admission to the program is subject to the verification of the following requirements:

1. A minimum of 40 credits for admission to the second year.
2. Evaluation by the College of Teachers on the completion of the formative activities.
3. Evaluation by the College of Teachers on the completion of the research activities.

Final Examination

The final examination is subject to the following requirements:

1. A minimum of 150 credits for admission to the final examination.
2. Evaluation by the College of Teachers on the completion of the research activities. The final examination will be held in accordance with the University's regulations. The candidate will discuss their thesis in front of a commission composed of internal and external university professors. The discussion can be held remotely only in cases of emergency.
