Program Overview

Introduction to the Master in Physics Program

The Master in Physics program aims to provide an advanced preparation in Physics, covering various sectors of modern Physics and its theoretical, experimental, and applied aspects. The program also focuses on developing a solid mastery of the scientific method of investigation, with knowledge of specialist topics in recent research in Physics.

Program Details

  • The Master in Physics is a two-year program with 120 ECTS.
  • The program has free access and is taught in both Italian and English.
  • The program is divided into five curricula:
    • Physics
    • Astrophysics and Space Science
    • Atmosphere Physics and Meteorology
    • Physics of Complex Systems and Big Data
    • Physics of Fundamental Interactions and Experimental Techniques
  • The "Physics" and "Physics of the Atmosphere and Meteorology" curricula are taught in Italian.
  • The Astrophysics and Space Science, Physics of Fundamental Interactions and Experimental Techniques, and Physics of Complex Systems and Big Data curricula are taught in English.

Learning Outcomes

Graduates of the Master in Physics program will have:

  • In-depth and flexible training, attentive to the most recent developments in scientific research and technology.
  • High scientific and operational preparation in the disciplines that characterize the class.
  • In-depth knowledge of measuring instruments and data analysis techniques.
  • In-depth knowledge of mathematical and IT support tools.
  • Ability to operate with wide autonomy, even taking on responsibility for projects and structures, in the field of scientific and technological research and innovation.
  • Ability to use the specific knowledge acquired, depending on the curriculum, or for the use and design of sophisticated measuring instruments or for the modeling of complex systems in the various fields of science and also in areas other than science.
  • Ability to use fluently, in written and oral form, at least one language of the European Union in addition to Italian, with reference also to disciplinary and technical lexicons.

Career Opportunities

The Master in Physics program prepares students for the professions of:

  • Physicists
  • Meteorologists
  • Biophysicists
  • Researchers and technicians graduated in physical sciences Graduates will have access to the PhD program and can pursue careers in universities, research institutes, and industries dealing with microelectronics, telecommunications, optics, and information technologies.

Program Structure

The Master in Physics program offers different study plans in the areas of:

  • Structure of Matter
