Program Overview

Introduction to the Preparatory Cycle PeiP

The Preparatory Cycle (PeiP: Parcours des Ecoles d'Ingénieurs Polytech) is a 2 or 3-year curriculum designed to prepare students for the Polytech engineering cycle by providing a fundamental multidisciplinary scientific education complemented by teachings focused on the engineering profession (specific modules, projects, internships, etc.).

Presentation of the Preparatory Cycle

Present in all schools of the Polytech Network, the Integrated Preparatory Cycle (PeiP) is aimed at scientific baccalaureate holders. Recruitment is done through the Geipi Polytech national competition, common to 35 engineering schools, including the 16 schools of the Polytech Network. Validation of the PeiP provides direct access to the engineering cycle in one of the specialties of the schools in the Polytech Network.

PeiP Programs Offered in Marseille

In Marseille, three distinct paths are offered in PeiP:

Peip A (Reserved for Students from a General Baccalaureate)

  • A 2-year preparatory cycle that includes a common core of scientific skills (mathematics, physics-chemistry, computer science, etc.) and transversal skills (English, communication, knowledge of the company). Specific teachings and individualized support for students through tutoring are part of the program.
  • It is designed to provide a real opening to the industrial world through knowledge of the company, interventions by professionals, and internships in France or abroad. In Marseille, the teachings of the preparatory cycle are located in the CMI building on the Château-Gombert site.
  • Detailed program of the training available.

Peip D (Reserved for Students from a Technological Baccalaureate)

  • Preparatory cycle for technological baccalaureate holders: a 3-year course of study in partnership with the IUT of Marseille for the departments of Electrical Engineering and Industrial Computing (GEII), Energy Transition and Efficiency (MT2E), Physical Measurements (MP), and Chemistry.
  • Courses take place at the IUT, with a complementary formation allowing integration into the school after three years of study, if validated. Some modules will be taught in the premises of Polytech Marseille (St Jérôme site).
  • Orientation after the preparatory cycle: At the end of the 3 years, students from the preparatory cycle will express their wishes to continue their studies among the engineering fields open to BUT followers (list), including six of the nine fields of Polytech Marseille accessible to STI2D or STL baccalaureate holders from its preparatory cycle.

Peip-Archi (Reserved for Students Wishing to Pursue a Double Curriculum in Civil Engineering/Architect)

  • A partnership with the Marseille Architecture School allowing students to pursue a double curriculum: engineering diploma + architect diploma.
  • This double diploma is unique in France, and graduates from this atypical path are highly valued in the job market.
  • The course starts exclusively in the first year of the Polytech Marseille preparatory cycle. Students admitted will have a secondary registration in the 2nd school. The intake is 30 students.
  • This double curriculum will take place over 3 years of preparatory cycle and 4 years of engineering cycle to allow students to follow the teachings and validate the skills of both formations.

Recruitment Process

  • Students are enrolled in the double curriculum if they are admitted to the two post-baccalaureate competitions of the two schools: Geipi-Polytech and ENSAM.
  • Students are informed before the start of the academic year if they are admitted or not to the double curriculum.

Access to the Preparatory Cycle

  • Accessible via the Geipi Polytech competition. Students in their final year and holders of the Baccalaureate can apply by registering for the Geipi Polytech competition.
  • All admission modalities to the preparatory cycle are described in the admissions section of the website.

After the Preparatory Cycle (Peip)

  • Direct access to the engineering cycle of a Polytech Network school after 2 or 3 years, for students who have validated their PeiP. The choice of specialty will be based on the student's wish, taking into account the specialties offered and the available places.
  • Students who have not validated their PeiP can continue their studies in a classic License curriculum.
  • At Polytech Marseille, a choice of 10 specialties is offered, with all domains of engineering sciences represented: Biological Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Computer Science, Materials, Mechanics and Energy, Microelectronics and Telecommunications, and Digital Systems.
  • Four specialties are accessible through the apprenticeship route: Industrial Ecology and Environment, Computer Science, Mechanics and Energy, and Digital Systems.

Important Note

  • All Polytech Marseille fields are accessible from its integrated preparatory cycle, except for the biological engineering/biotechnology field, which recruits exclusively profiles with a biology/life sciences background (PeiP B). Students interested in this field must complete a PeiP B with a biology/life sciences focus, as offered in other Polytech schools: Angers, Clermont-Ferrand, Lille, Montpellier, Paris Sorbonne, and Tours. For more information, consult the Polytech Network Admissions Guide.
  • The biomedical engineering field does not recruit PeiP B "bio" students.
