Program Overview
Introduction to the License Sciences and Humanités Program
The License Sciences and Humanités is a multidisciplinary program that offers students a broad and solid scientific education, combining sciences and humanities. This program is designed for highly motivated and curious students interested in both exact sciences and human and social sciences.
Objectives
The program's objectives are to provide students with a transdisciplinary education, allowing them to acquire a deep understanding of various disciplines, including mathematics, natural sciences, and human and social sciences. The program focuses on three pedagogical axes: mastery of disciplinary bases, critical approach to knowledge, and development of rational exercise and oral and written expression.
Public Visé
The program is designed for a public that is very motivated and curious, attracted to both exact sciences and human and social sciences.
Conditions d'Admission
Admission to the program requires a high school diploma (all types) or equivalent. Students must also pass an individual interview and have their academic record studied (first and final year transcripts). For candidates from French or equivalent institutions, it is necessary to go through the Parcoursup platform and request an interview by email. For candidates from other institutions, it is necessary to go through the Etudes en France platform, and an interview may be scheduled after examination of the application by the teaching team.
Structure and Organization
The program has a common core for the first two years, followed by a choice of specialization in the third year:
- Transdisciplinary Path: Opens up to masters in knowledge dissemination and multidisciplinary masters (ecology, epistemology, sociology, scientific mediation, etc.).
- Specialization Disciplinary Path: Allows students to specialize in different disciplines of sciences or humanities.
Sites d'Enseignement
The program is taught at the SCIENCES, Marseille St-Charles site.
Régimes d'Inscription
This formation is accessible in:
- Initial Training (FI)
- Continuing Education (FC)
Connaissances à Acquérir
The knowledge to be acquired covers several disciplinary fields, from mathematics to natural sciences (physics, biology, thermodynamics, ecology, climatology, paleoanthropology, ethology, etc.), and human and social sciences (philosophy, sociology, linguistics, history, history of art, literature, psychology, economics, etc.), as well as epistemology. This knowledge should enable students to acquire a broad and solid scientific education and potentially integrate the disciplinary master of their choice.
Compétences à Acquérir
The program does not follow a competency-based approach but focuses on developing students' existing faculties, including:
- Synthesis spirit
- Work capacity
- Mastery of disciplinary bases
- Critical approach to knowledge
- Rigorous reasoning and expression in French and English
Stages et Projets Encadrés
- Possible internships on a voluntary basis and in addition to the established program.
- Tutored project over the L3 year in the Specialization Disciplinary Path.
Taux d'Insertion Professionnelle
The program's professional integration rate is not specified.
Débouchés Professionnels
The program offers a wide range of choices for masters in sciences and humanities.
Poursuites d'Etudes
Students can pursue a wide range of masters in sciences and humanities, such as:
- Masters in sciences: mathematics, physics, biology.
- Masters in humanities: history, philosophy, sociology.
- Multidisciplinary masters: education sciences, epistemology, ecology, scientific mediation, cognitive sciences.
Partenariats
The program has partnerships with socio-cultural actors that complement the teachings and open students' horizons to the extra-academic world, providing them with practical experience. These partnerships include visits guided by the artist Sylvie Pic and the philosopher walker Antoine Devillet, initiation to the art of puppetry with the company Métacarpe, and an art workshop with the plastic artist Anne-Lise King.
Aide à la Réussite
The program offers reinforced supervision for all students, given the ambitious and multidisciplinary nature of the formation, as well as the diversity of student profiles. This includes support in mathematics from the first year and tutoring hours in disciplinary specialization in the third year.
Aide à l'Orientation
The program provides regular assessments of the student's fit with the formation to consider possible reorientations on a case-by-case basis. It also offers the possibility of integrating a disciplinary L3 after validation of the L2 or L3 of the License Sciences and Humanités, depending on the case.
Aide à la Poursuite d'Etudes et à l'Insertion Professionnelle
The program includes interviews in the third year with the promotion manager to guide students towards masters. It also provides connections with former students and access to a list of masters integrated by former students or relevant after the License Sciences and Humanités.
Études à l'Étranger
The program has Erasmus agreements with the License Sciences for Peace at the University of Pisa, the Philosophy Department at the University of Turin, and the Faculty of Education at Barcelona. Each year, 4 to 6 students spend at least one semester of the third year abroad.
Domaine
The program falls under the domains of Sciences and Technologies and Sciences humaines et sociales.
