Program Overview

Master Urbanisme et Aménagement - Transitions et Planification : Paysage, Aménagement et Urbanisme Écologique (TP-PAUE)

The TP-PAUE program trains students in landscape thinking and action in territorial planning and urbanism, from the scale of urban parks to that of large territories. The program forms professionals who are particularly knowledgeable about ways to manage and preserve living environments in plans and projects, in connection with the ecologization of practices by territorial and urban stakeholders.

Objectives

The TP-PAUE program aims to form students who are capable of thinking and acting in a way that takes into account the ecological dimension of urbanism. The program focuses on the analysis of urban and territorial contexts, the assistance to master plans for valuing and protecting landscapes, and the insertion of landscape issues into different project tools and procedures.

Target Audience

The program is designed for students from diverse disciplinary backgrounds who demonstrate an open approach to the ecological dimension of urbanism.

Admission Requirements

  • The Urbanisme et Aménagement program is designed to be completed over two years, with entry into the second year (M2) prioritized after obtaining a first year (M1) in Urbanisme et Aménagement.
  • It is possible to apply for direct entry into the second year after obtaining a M1 in another discipline, subject to an examination of the equivalence of formations.
  • The student must hold a M1 in Urbanisme et Aménagement or another compatible M1, subject to an examination of the equivalence of formations.

Recommended Prerequisites

  • It is recommended that students have followed teachings on the dynamics of cities and territories and the challenges of sustainable development.
  • Students should have a mastery of cartographic tools.
  • Students should have experimented with territorial diagnosis practices.

Structure and Organization

  • The three initial training courses (PAUE, HAPRU, PTS) are based on a significant common core aimed at providing fundamental knowledge and skills in urbanism and planning, in a double perspective of theoretical contributions and operational and practical approaches.
  • Specialization occurs within teachings and exercises specific to the course.
  • The year is divided into two semesters, with the second semester largely dedicated to the final internship.

Teaching Sites

  • FDSP, Marseille
  • Institut Méditerranéen de la Ville et des Territoires, 2 place Jules Guesde, Marseille

Training and Research

  • The training is based on the work and expertise developed over many years by teacher-researchers within the LIEU (Laboratoire Interdisciplinaire Environnement Urbanisme).
  • Students are trained in research as part of the realization of a mandatory final thesis.

Skills to be Acquired

The skills acquired by PAUE course students concern:

  • The analysis of the plurality of urban and territorial contexts in terms of landscape (studies and diagnosis).
  • Assistance to master plans for valuing and protecting the landscape in territorial and urban fabrication.
  • The insertion of landscape issues into different tools, approaches, and procedures for projects.
  • Mastery of representation tools (cartographic, schematic...).
  • Acquisition of written and oral communication codes.

Internships and Supervised Projects

Obtaining the diploma involves the realization of a final thesis and a supervised internship in a professional environment.

Professional Outcomes

Professional integration occurs in territorial communities, within territorial councils, intercommunalities, communes, technical services, green space and garden management, syndicates of planning, intercommunal syndicates...; within public structures for territorial management: CAUE, urban planning agencies, natural parks, GIP...; in urban planning and landscape study offices, particularly those specialized in assistance to master plans.

Further Studies

There is a possibility of further studies for students wishing to enroll in a doctorate in Aménagement et Urbanisme.
