Introduction to the DESU Juriste Internationaliste et Humanitaire de Terrain Program
The DESU Juriste Internationaliste et Humanitaire de Terrain is a university program designed to provide practical training to internationalist jurists and humanitarians who aim to work in the field. The program's primary objective is to offer an excellent practical education that enables students to become operational in exercising jurist or humanitarian functions in complex environments.
Objectives
The program's main goal is to provide students with the necessary skills and knowledge to work effectively in humanitarian missions, particularly in conflict zones, pre-conflict or post-conflict areas, humanitarian emergencies, natural disasters, political tensions, extreme poverty, and health challenges. The program is part of a partnership with the NOHA network.
Target Audience
The DESU program is designed for:
- Students enrolled in Master 2 or already holding a Master 2 or equivalent degree
- Professionals working in the humanitarian field who wish to improve their skills
- Individuals seeking to reorient their professional careers
A personal profile oriented towards internationalism, solidarity, and action is an asset. Perfect mastery of French and good mastery of English are essential.
Admission Requirements
Admission requirements include:
- Master 1 in law, political science, international relations, or equivalent
- Selection is based on a dossier review and may include an interview
Program Structure and Organization
The program consists of 30 weeks of teaching, from September to July of the academic year. The language of instruction is French.
Knowledge to be Acquired
The program aims to provide students with in-depth knowledge of:
- Applied international law: international humanitarian law, international criminal law, international human rights law, migration law
- Negotiation, argumentation, and mediation techniques
- Mechanisms for protecting human rights
- Contentious strategy (including trial simulation)
- Humanitarian communication, ethics, investigation techniques, and strategies of humanitarian actors
- Humanitarian security, action, project cycle, coordination, distribution, financing, and logistics
Skills to be Acquired
The program enables students to acquire the following skills:
- Analytical capacity
- Knowledge of project development techniques
- Knowledge of risk factors
- Knowledge of risk reduction techniques
- Ability to design intervention strategies and integrate them into sustainable development
- Ability to interact with technical aspects of nutrition, hygiene, medicine (for coordination and management purposes)
